JOANNA SARAPATA

Joanna Sarapata is a graduate of the prestigious L’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The school's archive has accepted as many as 11 of her works. Beyond painting, she has also worked in set design and poster art. In 1986, she won the grand prize in a poster competition organized by the elite Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.

She has been exhibiting her works since 1987 in countries such as France, where she lived and created for nearly 20 years, Spain, where she spent another 8 years, as well as Monaco, the USA, and China. Since 1998, Joanna Sarapata's works have also been on display in Poland.

For years, the central theme of her artistic work has been the female nude, particularly an exploration of the mystery and enigma of feminine nature. She often portrays strong and independent women who are simultaneously deeply sensitive. As critics note, her work serves as a subjective guide to the feminine essence, presenting its complexity and unpredictability.

The artist emphasizes that she paints with emotions. Her works convey passion, dreams, as well as doubts, sorrows, and anxieties. In her view, a woman must be, above all, feminine to be truly beautiful. She draws inspiration from the atmosphere of European cities, cinema, music, and literature. Her works are typically created on canvas or cardboard. By skillfully using mixed techniques—watercolor, ink, brush, and pen—her paintings achieve a light and ephemeral quality.

A distinctive feature of the artist's work is her portrayal of women without eyes, which we instinctively seek to read emotions from. In Joanna Sarapata's art, it is the body—its posture, pose, and gestures—that expresses women's moods, hidden desires, and inner conflicts.
